Tapestry Arch Trail – Arches National Park Hiking Guide
Overview
If you’re looking for an easy hike with big rewards in Arches National Park, the Tapestry Arch Trail delivers. Hidden away in the remote Klondike Bluffs district, this short trail leads to an elegant sandstone arch patterned with delicate lines and layers that resemble woven cloth — the “tapestry” that gives it its name.
Unlike the busier trails along the main park road, Tapestry Arch is quiet, uncrowded, and feels like a secret spot. Here, you’ll trade tour buses and pavement for sandy paths, slickrock, and wide-open desert views. It’s the perfect detour for photographers, families, or anyone craving a peaceful moment in the park.

How to Get There
From the Arches National Park entrance station, drive 4.5 miles north on the main park road, then turn right onto Salt Valley Road. Continue for about 7 miles on this graded dirt road until you reach the Klondike Bluffs parking area. Look for signs for Tapestry Arch and Tower Arch.
Local Tip: The road can be rutted after rain — high-clearance vehicles are recommended. In dry conditions, most passenger cars can make it.
Hiking Experience
The trail begins on soft desert sand, weaving between small shrubs and patches of cryptobiotic soil. In just a few minutes, you’ll start to see the sandstone wall where Tapestry Arch sits. The approach is a gradual climb over slickrock, leading right to the base of the arch.
From underneath the arch, look closely at the surface — thin horizontal bands and swirls of sediment create a natural pattern that truly looks handwoven. On clear days, the La Sal Mountains peek over the horizon, adding a touch of alpine contrast to the red rock scene.
