Arches National Park Driving Directions and Parking Tips

How to Get from Moab to Arches National Park

Arches National Park could not be easier to reach from Moab. The park entrance is only 5 miles north of downtown Moab, about a 10-minute drive.

From the center of town:

  • Head north on U.S. Highway 191.

  • After about 5 miles, look for the well-marked Arches National Park entrance road on the right.

  • Turn into the entrance road, where you’ll pass through the entrance station to show your park pass or purchase entry.

From there, the road climbs steeply onto the red rock plateau. The Arches Scenic Drive stretches 18 miles through the park, with side roads to trailheads and viewpoints.

Parking Tips Inside Arches National Park

Parking continues to be one of the biggest challenges for visitors. While the time entry program has alleviated some of the congestion there still seems to be more people than parking spots. Most trailheads have small lots that fill quickly, especially from March through October. Here are a few suggestions to help alleviate some of the stress associated with finding a parking space.

  • Arrive early or late
The most reliable way to find parking is before 8 am or after 5 pm. Midday is the most crowded.

  • Timed Entry Reservations
From April through October, you must have a timed entry reservation (in addition to your park pass) to enter between 7 am and 4 pm. Reservations are booked on Recreation.gov.

  • Trailheads with the Most Parking Pressure

    • Delicate Arch Trailhead (Wolfe Ranch) – fills before 8 am.

    • Devils Garden Trailhead – large lot, but still fills by mid-morning.

    • Sand Dune Arch / Broken Arch – small lot, often crowded.

  • Visitor Center Parking
The largest lot is at the Arches Visitor Center, just inside the entrance. It rarely fills completely and has restrooms, water, and information boards.

  • Overflow & Alternatives
If a lot is full, move on to another trailhead or viewpoint and circle back later. Do not park along roadsides—rangers will ticket cars outside designated lots.

Pro Tips for a Smoother Visit

  • Download maps before you go – cell service is unreliable inside the park.

  • Fill up in Moab – no food, gas, or water is sold inside Arches (except at the visitor center).

  • Expect to wait – during peak hours, you may circle for 15–20 minutes before finding a spot.

  • Have a backup plan – If Delicate Arch lot is full, hike to the Windows or Balanced Rock and return later.

  • Think about time of day – Sunrise and sunset not only mean easier parking but also the most photogenic light.
